Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs dropped their second straight game, 5-2, against the Adirondack Thunder, Friday night at SNHU arena.

The Monarchs (8-8-1-1) couldn't hold their early 2-0 lead, as the Adirondack Thunder (12-7-0-1) scored 5 unanswered goals, winning the game 5-2.

Matt Marcinew opened scoring for the Monarchs at 5:37 of the first period, scoring his fifth of the season and giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead. Marcinew deflected a shot that came from the top of the offensive zone by Dave Kolomatis, beating Adirondack goaltender, Alex Sakellaropoulos.

Spencer Watson quickly followed that up with his tenth of the season to give the Monarchs a 2-0 lead at 6:44 in the first period. Capitalizing off passes from Michael Doherty and Jack Nevins, Watson was able to squeeze the puck past Sakellaropoulos, to extend the Monarchs lead.

The Monarchs lead was cut in half at 15:16 of the first period, when Connor Riley scored his tenth of the season. Assisted by Mike Szmatula and Kelly Summers, Riley hammered home a rebound on the right post, beating Monarchs goaltender, Cole Kehler.

Szmatula then followed with a game-tying goal at 17:08 of the first period to give him his ninth of the season. After a flurry of shots in front, Szmatula pounced on a rebound and tied the game, roofing a shot over the glove of Kehler.

While on the penalty kill, Shane Conacher scored his seventh goal of the season at 18:42 in the first period to give the Thunder a 3-2 lead. Riley found Conacher streaking down the slot, for a one-timer, that beat the glove of Kehler.

Adirondack doubled their lead at 6:08 in the second period off Michael Sdao's fourth goal of the season. Matias Cleland set up Sdao for a breakaway, where he tucked a shot between the legs of Kehler, giving the Thunder a 4-2 lead.

Riley finished the scoring, with his eleventh goal of the season, at 4:08 in the third period to give the Thunder a 5-2 lead. Assisted by Kelly Summers and Cleland, Riley capitalized off an Adirondack power play, picking up a rebound off Kehler's chest, to give him his second of the night.

The Monarchs return to action Saturday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m., when they take on the Maine Mariners at SNHU Arena for the Teddy Bear Toss. For tickets, Season Memberships and group tickets, please contact the Monarchs front office at 603-626-7825.
