Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks (11-5-1-0) dropped a 1-0 contest at the hands of the Tulsa Oilers (13-2-2-2) Friday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

The game was the 90th all-time between Kansas City and Tulsa and was the first time ever that the Oilers blanked the Mavericks, the home side coming out on the wrong side of history.

The winning goal came courtesy of Steven Kaunisto, a slap shot from the blue line at 8:39 of the first that found its way through traffic, off a post and past Ben Halford.

The game tightened in the second and third periods, Kansas City being limited to just 12 shots over the final two periods of play. Tulsa now owns a 3-0 lead over the Mavericks in the season series.

The Mavericks and Oilers face off once again Saturday night in the Mavericks' annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Both teams will wear specialty jerseys as part of Marvel Super Hero Night to be auctioned at a later date, and the Mavs will be collecting bandages at doors.
