Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder today announced that they have re-signed defenseman Nate Metcalf.
The 6-4, 200-pound Metcalf joined the Thunder for the 2004 CHL playoffs and had a memorable first game, scoring the lone Thunder goal in Wichita's heartbreaking 2-1 triple overtime loss in game two of the CHL Northern Conference Finals at Bossier-Shreveport. Metcalf picked up his first pro assist in game three, when the Thunder beat the Mudbugs 5-2, finishing the postseason with two points and 12 shots on goal in four games.
"Nate showed great resolve stepping right into the Thunder lineup last season in a pressure-packed situation", said Thunder head coach Derek Laxdal. "I am confident he will pick up where he left off and be a big part of the Thunder defense this season."
Prior to joining the Thunder, Metcalf played four seasons at Minnesota State University - Mankato, picking up 21 points in 101 games. He had his best season in 2003-04, notching a career-high 12 points in 38 games with the Mavericks. Prior to attending college, Metcalf spent two seasons with the USHL's Fargo Moorhead Ice Sharks, picking up 26 points. Metcalf joins defensemen Ryan Fairbarn and Blake Forsyth, veteran forward Travis Clayton and goaltender Jamie Vandespyker under contract for 2004-05.
