
Thunder Pushes Over Mavericks

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder shutout the Missouri Mavericks 3-0 in their first exhibition game of the 2009-10 season.
Rookie forward Mike Kneeland notched two points, while first-year goaltenders Scott Campbell and Jamie Gilbert combined for a 39-save shutout.
Kneeland got Wichita on the board just 38 seconds into the game, wristing a shot past Mavericks' goaltender Doug Groenestege from the high slot. Near the end of the period, third-year right wing Mike Batovanja cleaned up a rebound on a wrap-around at the 19:29 mark. Chris Tarkir scored short handed at 2:54 in the third period to give the Thunder a 3-0 lead.
Campbell played the first half of the game, stopping 18 of 18 shots before coming out at the 9:25 mark in the second. Gilbert played the rest of the night, saving 21 of 21 which at one point included two full minutes of a Mavericks' five-on-three power play.
The Thunder finish their preseason series with Missouri Saturday night at the Wichita Ice Center. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the Thunder office at (316) 264-GOAL.
