Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs are preparing for a pair of preseason exhibition games against conference rival Mississippi this weekend. Tonight the 'Bugs are in Southaven, Mississippi to face the RiverKings at 7:05 pm before returning to Bossier City to host the 'Kings at CenturyTel Center on Saturday night, also at 7:05 pm. Bossier-Shreveport's home preseason game is presented by Willis-Knighton Sports Medicine.
The Mudbugs also announced two additions to their training camp roster today: forward Jeff Kyrzakos and defenseman Kirk Medernach.
Kyrzakos, 24, joins the Mudbugs for his fourth professional season after spending the past three in the ECHL. The 6-2, 195-pound center has played in 196 pro games, totaling 47 goals, 61 assists, 108 points and 142 penalty minutes in that time. He enjoyed a career year in 07-08, posting 53 points (21g, 32a) in 74 games with Phoenix and Charlotte. The Mississauga, Ontario native played five seasons of junior hockey, including two in the Ontario Hockey League, before turning pro in 2006. During his last junior season, Kyrzakos scored 33 goals and recorded 79 points in 64 games with the Owen Sound Attack.
Medernach, also 24, met the team in Mississippi today and should be in the lineup for tonight's preseason opener. The rookie out of Mercyhurst College (NCAA) will bring a sizeable 6-4, 220-pound frame to the 'Bugs blueline corps. Medernach, who hails from Cudworth, Saskatchewan, recorded 28 points (4g, 24a) and 272 penalty minutes in 138 games over a four-year collegiate career. He also totaled 54 points and 432 minutes worth of penalties in two seasons of junior hockey prior to his time in college. He made his pro debut last spring, appearing in one game with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones.
For the second consecutive season, the Mudbugs and RiverKings will face one another in a pair of preseason matches as both squads look to solidify their rosters for the upcoming CHL regular season.
