
Bucks Fall In Front Of Record Preseason Crowd

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-3 Friday night, in front of a franchise preseason record crowd of 5,076 at the Laredo Entertainment Center.
Josef Fojtik had a goal and an assist to lead the Bucks offensive charge, while Andy Franck starred in net for the Killer Bees stopping 29 of 32 Bucks shots.
Matt Sweazey put Rio Grande Valley ahead for good 4-3 with 7:14 left in the third period.
The Bees jumped on top with 4:46 left in the first period when Kurtis Dulle scored off of a slap shot from the point past Gerry Festa.
The Bucks would knot the game at one with just 1:58 left in the first period, when defenseman Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel sent a laser slap shot in from the point past Franck. Evan Schwabe and Fojtik picked up the assists.
The Bees were outshot in the first period 11-10.
Rio scored two straight goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead, as Andrew Schermbri (14:22) and Sean Muncy (16:23) lit the lamp. Both of the Bees were scored against Kyle Gajewski, who replaced Festa midway through the seocnd period. Festa 15 faced and made 14 saves.
Fojtik scored a breakaway goal to cut the Bees lead to 3-2 with just 2:13 left in the second period. Fojtik snuck a backhander past Franck to cut into the Rio advantage, with Matt McKeown and Maxime Lincourt dishing out assists.
The Bees once again outshot the Bucks in the period, this time by a 11-10 margin.
Ryan Salvis tied the game at 3-3 for the Bucks when he scored just 6:18 into the third period. Justin Styffe and Tomas Sample had the helpers.
The Bucks outshot the Bees in the third period 13-12, but were outshot in the game by a count of 35-34.
Gajewski stopped 17 of 20 Bees shots in taking the loss.
The Bucks played without several of their returning players Friday night, as Jeff Bes coached from the bench as President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski scouted from the stands, with Adam Rivet, Mike Looby, Igor Agarunov and Darryl Smith sitting out as well.
Among the preseason record crowd in attendance Friday night was Legendary Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil. Neil dropped the first puck before signing autographs in the concourse.
The Bucks will play their second and final pre-season game Saturday at Corpus Christi, before making cuts on Sunday.
The Bucks will open their eighth season in the Gateway City on October 24th at the LEC, with the first 1,000 fans entering the arena receiving a FREE Bucks "Believe in Blue" picture frame. The Bucks will host the 2010 CHL All-Star Game January 13th. For ticket information call 718-BUCK (2825).
