
Thunder, Oilers Split Weekend Set

FIRST PERIOD DOOMS THUNDER- The Oilers scored three goals in a span of 2:50 and never looked back, taking a 4-2 win on Friday in Tulsa. Josh Garbutt, Paul Kelly, Lucas Burnett and Kai Magnussen scored the Oilers goals, while Mathieu Wathier and Kris Wiebe scored for the Thunder. Kevin St. Pierre outdueled Sebastien Laplante for the win in net.
THUNDER GETS REVENGE- The Thunder jumped out to a quick first period lead and never trailed, coming away with a 4-3 win over Tulsa on Saturday at the Kansas Coliseum. Kris Wiebe, Daniel Tetrault, Kyle Bruce and Dominic D'Amour scored the Thunder goals, while Bruce Richardson added three assists. Sebastien Laplante picked up the victory, making 21 saves.
WEIRD STAT- The Thunder is 2-5-0 despite positive shot totals. Wichita is outshooting their opponents in the first and third periods and has been outshot by just one in the second, but is being outscored in every period. Wichita ranks fourth in the CHL for fewest shots allowed, at 29.7, but is last in the CHL, averaging 2.00 goals per game.
ROUGH AND TUMBLE THUNDER- Though they have played far fewer games than every CHL team, the Thunder still ranks second in the CHL, averaging 32.9 penalty minutes per game. Wichita also ranks fourth in the CHL with 18 major penalties.
CLAYTON KEEPS ADDING TO MILESTONES- With his second period assist on Friday, Travis Clayton tied Jason Duda for the all-time Thunder lead with 476 assists. Clayton also tied Duda for third in CHL history with 787 points and tied Duda for second in CHL history on Saturday, when he played in his 641st CHL game. With 311, Clayton is just two goals shy of passing former Thunder star Paul Jackson for second place in CHL history and is just 13 points shy of becoming the third player in CHL history to reach the 800-point plateau.
MORE MILESTONES- Daniel Tetrault, fifth among all-time franchise defensemen, is one point shy of 100 for his Thunder career. With 44, goaltender Sebastien Laplante is one win shy of tying Lance Leslie for second in Thunder history. With four, he is also one shutout shy of tying Greg Smith for the most in Thunder history.
THUNDER WELCOMES WINGNUTS, BEAUCHAMP TO WICHITA PRO SPORTS FAMILY- Wichita Pro Sports unveiled the name and logo of their new American Association Baseball Team at a press conference on Friday. The Wichita Wingnuts will begin play on May 7th, 2008. Kash Beauchamp was introduced as the Wingnuts first Manager, while Luke Robertson was named pitching coach. The Wingnuts ownership group was also introduced Friday and includes Detroit Tigers pitcher Nate Robertson. Fans can access the new website at www.wichitawingnuts.com.
INJURY REPORT- Veteran left wing Jason Duda, tied for the all-time Thunder leader with 476 assists, remains on the 30-day Injured Reserve. Forward Ladislav Kouba was placed on the 14-day IR. He is eligible to return on November 21st at Amarillo.
THUNDERBOLTS- Wichita ranks second in the CHL, averaging 6,201 fans per game...Dominic D'Amour ranks second among CHL defensemen with 36 shots on goal...The Thunder has held their opponents 0-12 on the power play over the last three games...Defenseman Mathieu Wathier is riding a three-game scoring streak...Wichita is 2-1-0 when scoring first, 0-4-0 when allowing the first goal...By next Monday, the Thunder will have three or four games in hand on every team in their division and six games in hand on Youngstown, the top team in the Northern Conference...Wichita's next home games are Thanksgiving weekend, Friday, November 23rd against Mississippi and Saturday, November 24th versus Oklahoma City.
