Mississippi RiverKings News Release

WEEK PREVIEW

After concentrating on the Sooner State last week, the RiverKings will return to divisional play for the next few days. With a meeting in Bossier City and then another in Southaven, the 'Kings and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will have met six times already this season by the end of the week. But after Saturday, the teams won't see each other again in 2007. The RiverKings lead the season series 3-1.

Meanwhile, the 'Kings have only seen the Youngstown SteelHounds once this season. However, the SteelHounds may simply see the RiverKings as a small notch on their belts. The 'Hounds have opened their season with a 14-game road trip, and after yesterday's 4-2 come-from-behind win over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, they have a record of 10-0-1. One of those wins came at the DeSoto Civic Center, where the teams will meet on Friday. After that, they won't see each other again until next month.

WEEK IN REVIEW (3-0) Tuesday: Mississippi 5, Tulsa 2 Ryan Held had two goals and two assists to lead the RiverKings over the Oilers in Tulsa. He scored just 3:46 into the contest, and also scored with 8:49 remaining to give the 'Kings a comfortable two-goal lead.

Rick Kozak scored with 1:28 left in the second period to break a 2-2 tie. Held threw the puck towards the Oilers goal from the right circle, but did not fire it with much strength. As it bounced in the slot, Kozak spun and smacked the puck past Oilers goalie Clint Chalmers to give the 'Kings a 3-2 lead heading into the locker room after the second period. Kozak added an empty-netter with time winding down in the game.

Ryan Campbell scored shorthanded for the RiverKings. Sebastien Centomo made 29 saves.

Friday: Mississippi 4, Oklahoma City 2 Rick Kozak and Chad Woollard both scored in the third period to lead the RiverKings over the Blazers 4-2 at the DeSoto Civic Center. To open the final term, Kozak skated down the right wing and faked a forehand shot. He then went to the backhand and walked out from the corner across the goalmouth and slipped the puck past Blazers goalie Sean Connors to give the 'Kings a 3-2 lead just 31 seconds into the period.

Woollard scored on a shot-pass from Ryan Campbell on an odd-man rush with 3:39 remaining to seal the win for the RiverKings.

Aaron Davis and Derek Landmesser both scored in the second period for the 'Kings. Larry Sterling made 21 saves.

Saturday: Mississippi 3, Oklahoma City 0 The RiverKings rode the momentum from the previous night's third period and shutout the Blazers 3-0 to complete a four-point weekend at the DCC.

Rick Kozak's breakaway goal 10:48 into the contest gave Sebastien Centomo all the offense he needed. Ryan Held and Chad Woollard scored on the power play before the end of the first period.

The game featured seven fights, with three of them coming in the final minute of the second period. Kozak had 14 minutes in penalties for the RiverKings, but the assist that would have given him the Gordie Howe Hat Trick eluded him.

Centomo stopped 36 shots for his first shutout of the year.
