New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Last week the Scorpions players put on a private hockey clinic for the Boys and Girls Club of Rio Rancho. Nearly 30 kids from the local club took part in this hands-on clinic featuring their favorite professional hockey team.
Randy Murphy and Eric Soltys from the Scorpions coaching staff designed special puck handling and scoring drills tailored towards youth. Joining the coaches were forwards Dominic Osman and Mitch Stephens and defenseman Jay Holladay and David Simoes.
The group spent over two hours together learning about the great sport of hockey. The Boys and Girls Club participants were also taught the importance of teamwork and communication. Following the clinic the coaches and players autographed team pictures for the participants.
"I think the boys and girls really enjoyed our time together," said Murphy. "I know the players and coaches had a blast bringing the sport of hockey to them and teaching them the fundamentals of our great sport."
The Scorpions are back on home ice Friday night when Amarillo visits the Santa Ana Star Center. It will be Radio Disney Night with Disney Prize Packs given to the first 300 kids through the gates. New Mexico will also be at home this Sunday afternoon for a 3:15 p.m. affair against Arizona. Following the game there will be a skate with the Scorpions.
