Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
Top Dog in the Yard
The Youngstown SteelHounds are now on top of the Central Hockey League with three impressive victories over the weekend. Friday night saw Chris Richards record a goal and four assists as the Hounds defeated the Austin Ice Bats by a score of 7-2. Saturday night the Hounds took on the Laredo Bucks in what was considered a possible preview of the President's Cup Finals. Youngstown jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Bryan Lachapelle and Eric Przepiorka. Laredo kept the game close with a goal from Igor Agarunov to make it 2-1. Kevin Jarman put the game out of reach as he scored at 5:55 of the third period to put the Hounds up 3-1. Andy Franck held off the Bucks making 33 saves and gave the Hounds a 3-2 win. Sunday saw the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees jump out to a 2-1 lead until the Hounds scored three unanswered goals in the third period to take a 4-2 victory. Petr Pohl scored two goals including the game winner and Nathan Schwartzbauer scored his first professional goal in that contest.
What's On Tap: The Final Three
The SteelHounds are now finally into the final week of this marathon road trip that will last 34 days, play 14 games and log over 7,000 miles. Tuesday night the Hounds take on the Tulsa Oilers, Friday night they battle the Mississippi RiverKings and then they finish the trip with a Saturday night game at the Texas Brahmas. All three games start at 8:05 EST. All games are available on SteelHounds.com. Please keep checking SteelHounds.com for radio station availability.
Be All That You Can Be
After Andy Franck had started the first eight games in net for the Hounds we finally saw Brad Roberts get into the action with two starts over the weekend. Friday night the West Point graduate made 37 saves on 39 shots as the Hounds defeated Austin by a score of 7-2. Sunday afternoon he made 27 saves on 29 shots to lead the Hounds over Rio Grande Valley with a 4-2 victory. Roberts has a 2.00 goals against average and a save percentage of .941.
P is for Putting the Puck in the Net
One of the biggest reasons for the SteelHounds success is the play of Petr Pohl and Eric Przepiorka. Pohl is the team leader in both points (17) and goals (8). Przepiorka is third on the team in points with 15 coming from five goals and 10 assists. Both men lead the team in +/- at +8. Over the weekend Pohl, the fifth round draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2004 NHL entry draft had four goals and three assists. He is currently riding a seven game point streak which consists of seven goals and seven assists. Przepiorka has been just as impressive as he is coming off a six game point streak where he registered four goals and eight assists.
