Thunder Hits the Ice at Oilers Rookie Camp

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, has announced left wingers Andy Contois, Adam Huxley and six members from the Thunder's 2006-07 roster are scheduled to participate in Oilers preseason rookie camp held in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Goaltender Devan Dubnyk, right wing Troy Bodie - both selections to the National Conference roster in the 2007 ECHL All-Star Game - along with left wing Stephane Goulet, left wing Liam Reddox, center Tyler Spurgeon and defenseman Bryan Young (first former Thunder player to make his NHL debut) are scheduled to participate in the camp as well.

This year's camp opened today with medicals and fitness testing at the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic at the University of Alberta. Following the morning sessions, the 38 players and team personnel are scheduled to fly to Yellowknife.

The Oilers Rookies will hit the ice from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. PT each day in Yellowknife. The annual exhibition game between the Oilers' Rookies and the University of Alberta Golden Bears will take place on Monday, September 10th, with the two teams facing-off at 7:00 p.m. at Clare Drake Arena.

Contois, 25, was signed by the Thunder as a free agent on August 14 and helped guide the Gwinnett Gladiators to a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs last season (41-24-7 record, 89 points) as a rookie, scoring 40 points (19g-21a) in 71 games with 56 penalty minutes. The Marquette, Mich. native tied for second on the Gladiators with two shorthanded goals and appeared in four Kelly Cup Playoff games last season, scoring a goal and adding an assist.

Huxley, 23, appeared in a career-high 61 games last year in his first season with the Thunder, scoring 10 points (1g-9a) while tallying a Thunder single-season record 241 penalty minutes, ranking fourth in the ECHL. The Wainwright, Alberta native has appeared in 160 career ECHL games in four seasons (2003-07) with the Thunder, Alaska Aces, Las Vegas Wranglers and Victoria Salmon Kings, posting 696 penalty minutes while scoring 32 points (11g-21a).
