(COLUMBIA, S.C.) Sept. 6, 2007- The Columbia Inferno have signed winger Kelly Thomson, head coach and director of hockey operations Troy Mann announced today.

Thomson played 37 games with the Muskegon Fury of the former United Hockey League last season, scoring six points (four goals, two assists) and racking up 94 penalty minutes.

"Kelly is a real high-energy kind of guy. We expect him to bring a lot to our locker room," Mann said. "There's always room for an up-tempo sparkplug in any organization, and we hope Kelly can prove himself and fill that role for the Inferno."

The five-foot-ten, 200-pound Thomson played junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League from 2004-05 through 2005-06, splitting time with his hometown London Knights and the Oshawa Generals. While in the OHL, the 22-year-old Thomson played 107 games, tallying 38 points (15 goals, 23 assists) and 317 penalty minutes.

The Columbia Inferno's regular-season home opener is Friday, Oct. 26 against the Augusta Lynx. Season tickets, group packages and partial ticket plans are available now by calling 803.256.PUCK or by logging on to columbiainferno.com.
