Wichita Thunder News Release

Wichita, KS (March 20th) - The Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League is excited to announce that former Thunder great Travis Clayton will be playing in Saturday's Alumni Game and will have his number '38' retired before Saturday's game against Evansville.

Clayton spent 11 seasons in Wichita, and still ranks second in Thunder history in games played, goals, assists, and points. In 2008, the Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan native broke the CHL's record for games played (709), which was set by former Oklahoma City great and the CHL's all-time leading scorer Joe Burton.

The 5-8, 180-lb. forward was one of the CHL's top players for a number of years, leading Wichita in scoring four times and reaching the 25-goal mark on nine different occasions. His career highs with the Thunder include 42 goals in 1999-00, 57 assists in 2002-03, and 93 points in 2004-05.

His number '38' will be hung to the rafters alongside longtime line-mate Jason Duda, who had his number '11' retired a year ago. Clayton will join Ron Handy, Bobby Desjardins, Rob Weingartner and Duda as the only players in the Thunder's 20-year history to receive that honor.

Wichita heads south to face the Texas Brahmas on Tuesday night for the final time before returning home for the final two home games of the season on Friday and Saturday. For tickets, call 755-SEAT, visit the INTRUST Bank Arena box office or online at www.selectaseat.com .
