Trenton Thunder News Release

Akron, OH - The Thunder bullpen was unable to hold the lead on Tuesday night, as Trenton fell to the Akron Aeros 8-5 at Canal Park in Akron. With the loss, the Thunder are now 11-14 on the year.

RHP DJ Mitchell gave up three early runs over the first two innings pitched, but was able to settle down the rest of the way. He finished with six innings under his belt, and retired the last eight batters in a row.

The Thunder picked up two runs in the fourth inning off Akron RHP Zach Putnam. After Daniel Brewer led off the inning with a double, David Adams launched a two-run home run over the left field wall to cut Akron's lead to 3-2.

Trenton took the lead in the fifth inning with two more runs. Kevin Smith led off with a single and Luis Nunez reached first base on a fielding error. Brewer came up and hammered a double to the center field wall, scoring both runners, and the Thunder took a 4-3 lead.

LHP Wilkin De La Rosa (0-2) came on in relief of Mitchell, and struck out Tim Fedroff for the first out in the bottom of the seventh inning. But two consecutive hits and a catcher's interference would load the bases for Beau Mills, who ripped a double into center field, and all three runners would cross the plate to make it 6-4 Akron. The Aeros would get two more runs off De La Rosa before he was removed for Eric Wordekemper.

In the ninth, Austin Romine hit a solo home run with one out to cut the Akron lead to 8-5, but the next two batters would make the last two outs to end the ball game.

Brewer would finish the night going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

The Thunder and Aeros play game three of their four game series on Wednesday evening, with a first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. RHP Ryan Pope will start for Trenton. Akron goes with LHP Ryan Edell.
