Loewen Belts Two HRs in Fisher Cats' 8th Straight Victory

Manchester, NH - Adam Loewen belted two home runs and Brad Emaus went 3-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBIs as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats matched a club record by winning their eighth straight game, 8-4, over the New Britain Rock Cats on Tuesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

New Hampshire (18-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against Mike McCardell when Eric Thames drew a two-out walk and Emaus knocked a two-run homer, his third, into the Poultry Products Dinner in the Den.

The Fisher Cats added two more runs in the second inning when Loewen (2-for-4, 2 HR) cleared the wall in right-center for a solo homer and Darin Mastroianni (4-for-5, 3B, RBI, R) extended his hitting streak to 10 games with an RBI triple, scoring Brian Jeroloman (2-for-3, 2 R), who had walked, for a 4-0 lead.

New Britain (4-20) sliced the lead in half against Luis Perez in the top of the fourth on a run-scoring single by Mark Dolenc (2-for-3, BB, RBI, R) and a sacrifice fly by Ben Revere (0-for-3, BB, SF).

The Fisher Cats answered back in the home half of the fifth when Thames (1-for-2, HR, BB, SF, SB, 2 R) crushed his Eastern League-leading seventh homer, a solo shot off the batter's eye that gave New Hampshire a 5-2 lead.

Joe Benson (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) drilled a two-run homer, his third, off Perez in the sixth, drawing the Rock Cats to within 5-4 and becoming the first player to clear the batter's eye at Merchantsauto.com Stadium with a long ball since Mike Costanzo of the Reading Phillies on May 24, 2007.

Perez (3-1) allowed four runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings to notch the victory. The left-hander fanned six and walked two.

McCardell (0-3) remained winless after surrendering five runs on nine hits in six innings. The righty walked two and struck out two.

Emaus added a run-scoring double off Santos Arias in the seventh, and Loewen mashed his second homer of the night, and fourth of the year, in the eighth.

Four Fisher Cats' relievers -Trystan Magnuson, Tim Collins, Vince Bongiovanni and Danny Farquhar- combined to pitched 3.2 innings of one-hit baseball, with Farquhar striking out Chris Parmelee with the bases loaded to register his league-leading eighth save.

The Fisher Cats search for the first nine-game winning streak in franchise history on Wednesday night at 6:35pm when right-hander Kyle Drabek (4-1, 3.49) attempts to become the league's first five-game winner. He'll be opposed by New Britain right-hander David Bromberg (1-0, 1.13). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:15pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
