Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Phillies want to see if you have what it takes to make a SPAM creation.
On Saturday, May, 8, the R-Phils will host the Akron Aeros in game two of their three-game series at 6:05 p.m. Before the exciting game between the two Eastern League teams, the R-Phils will again host a SPAM Carving contest, courtesy of Rock Hits Y102, with all proceeds going to the Opportunity House.
There will be prizes for the top five finalists, a grand prize of $250 for first place, and proceeds of the entire contest benefit the Opportunity House.
Fans who wish to enter the SPAM carving contest will want to make their way over to the food court to sign-up when they arrive at the ballpark on Saturday evening. The food court opens to all fans at 4:00pm. Once in the food court, the SPAM carving contestant can get a can of SPAM to carve their masterpiece for just a $5 donation, which will go to the Opportunity House. Fans will be able to use knives and toothpicks, which are provided by the Reading Phillies, to carve their creations. SPAM carvers may also bring their own carving tools.
The SPAM carving contest will continue throughout the end of the fourth inning, with SPAM carvers competing against each other for a grand prize of $250 cash. While each contestant will battle to make the best SPAM creation, the R-Phils will select five finalists to take the field after the fourth frame to show off their SPAM masterpiece. The winner of the contest will be announced on field at the end of the sixth inning in front of the FirstEnergy Stadium crowd. The winner will be recognized as the R-Phils 2010 SPAM Carving Champion.
Fans who do not enter the contest will still want to make their way down to the food court to help in the judging. The R-Phils are asking for fan input in selecting the top five finalists, and in selecting the winner as well -- so come out and support your SPAM carving friend or family member too!
Last year's SPAM carving contest was featured on WFMZ 69 News & CNN, so if you think you have what it takes to make the best SPAM creation, come on out to FirstEnergy Stadium on Saturday, May 8 for a night to remember!
