
Thunder Garet Hunt Returns from Loan to Worcester

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, announced left winger Garet Hunt has been returned to the Thunder from his loan to the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League on a professional tryout agreement (PTO).
Hunt, 23, will be available to suit up for the Thunder tomorrow, who visit the Idaho Steelheads in their next game starting at 6:10 p.m. (1280 KWSX/StocktonThunder.com) at Qwest Arena.
The 5-foot-8, 190-pound forward was re-signed by the Thunder as a free agent on Aug. 24, 2010 and earned a professional tryout agreement with the Sharks for their opening night roster this year. He skated in nine games with Worcester, collecting one assist and 35 penalty minutes.
Hunt, entering his third season as a member of the Thunder, is the back-to-back recipient of the Thunder "Fan Favorite" Award for the last two seasons. He has spent his entire ECHL career of two seasons (2008-10) in a Thunder uniform, suiting up in 115 career games, scoring 28 points (10g-18a) while ranking second on the Thunder all-time list with 463 penalty minutes.
The Maple Ridge, British Columbia native has also appeared in 26 lifetime Kelly Cup Games, scoring eight points (6g-2a) and totaling 30 penalty minutes. He also skated in one game with the Springfield Falcons in 2008-09, totaling two PIM's.
Last season, Garet led the Thunder with 215 penalty minutes in 52 games and added five goals and 12 points (5g-7a). He scored four points (2g-2a) in 12 Kelly Cup Playoff games, including a game-winning goal.
In 193 career games, spanning four seasons (2004-08) in the Western Hockey League with the Vancouver Giants, he collected 542 penalty minutes and 41 points (16g-25a).
A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons, was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine for the third straight year, and drew over 200,000 fans for the fifth consecutive season in 2009-10.
