Bryan Pitton Named ECHL Goaltender of the Week

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, announced in conjunction with the ECHL that Bryan Pitton has been named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week, ending Nov. 7.

Pitton, 22, earns the third ECHL award of his career after going 2-0-0 with a goals against average of 0.96 and a save percentage of .956 in three appearances against Pacific Division rival Bakersfield last week.

He turned aside all 19 shots on Friday in a 7-0 win to record his second professional shutout. He made 21 saves on 23 shots on Saturday in a 4-2 win and stopped 3 out of 3 shots after coming into the game in the third period on Sunday in a 4-0 win. His third period goal allowed to Bakersfield's Carter Smith on Saturday ended a regular season shutout streak at 304:50 that spanned into the 2009-10 season.

The 6-foot-2, 176-pound goaltender leads the ECHL with a 0.96 goals-against average and .956 save percentage.

He is the second Thunder goaltender to receive the award in the last three weeks and is among four goaltenders in Thunder history (seventh overall) to receive the award.

A native of Mississauga, Ontario is under contract with Edmonton of the National Hockey League after being selected by the Oilers in the fifth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Earning two recalls directly to Edmonton from Stockton last season, he skated for the Oilers in the 2010 YoungStars Tournament in September and was third in the 2010 Kelly Cup Playoffs with a 1.70 goals-against average and was tied for first with a .943 save percentage.

Pitton is 20-28-6 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 3.09 and a save percentage of .903 in 59 games with Stockton over the last three seasons. He has also made 11 appearances in the American Hockey League for Springfield and Oklahoma City since 2008.
