Wichita Thunder News Release

Wichita, KS - In their first-ever meeting, Wichita couldn't overcome a three-goal first period by the Brampton Beast dropping a 3-2 decision on Friday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Jared Walker recorded his first of the season while Mike Wilson had two points on the night. Wichita falls to 1-3-2 on the season with two more games on the weekend.

Brampton got off to a quick start just 48 seconds into the game on a goal from Andrew Fournier. Mike Wilson tied it at one at the 11:28 mark after receiving a terrific pass from Jon Booras at the bottom of the right circle across the crease to beat former Thunder goalie Grant Rollheiser. Brampton would answer right away as Rob Collins put a one-timer past Torrie Jung to re-gain the lead for the Beast, which was just 11 seconds after the Thunder scored. Later in the period, Jason Pitton stole a loose puck inside the Thunder line, walked in on the left wing and fired a wrist shot past Jung that gave the Beast a 3-1 advantage through 20 minutes.

The only goal of the second came halfway through the period which cut the Brampton lead to one. Walker, who had just stepped out of the penalty box after being whistled for hooking, was able to create an odd-man rush and he buried a beautiful pass from Jason Wilson at 10:08 to make it a 3-2 affair.

In the third, Wichita had several chances with the man advantage and even a breakaway from Mike Wilson after he came out of the penalty box, but couldn't beat Rollheiser. Wichita was called for too many men on the ice at 17:54, but things would be evened up at 19:06 when Fournier was sent off for holding. Jung was pulled in the final minute to give the Thunder a five-on-four advantage with the extra attacker, but Brampton held on for the win.

Mike Wilson and Booras extended point-streaks as Wilson had a goal and an assist to push his to four. Booras added an assist and now has eight helpers in his last five games. Jung took the loss, stopping 20 of 23 shots. Rollheiser earned the win, stopping 34 of 36 shots.

The two teams went a combined 0-for-14 as Wichita was 0-for-8 and Brampton went 0-for-6.
