Thunder Crush Colts in Series Finale

San Angelo, Texas --- The McAllen Thunder used two big innings to blow out the San Angelo Colts, 19-1, Friday night at Foster Field.
McAllen scored five runs in the fourth and sixth in the fifth inning to cruise to victory. Right fielder Tim Battle led the way, going 5-for-5 with two home runs, three RBIs and five runs scored. Centerfielder Cody Bishop also had a big game with five RBIs.
All but three Thunder players had multiple hits, and they forced the Colts to use two position players as pitchers. Colts' starter Alex Bates (2-3) took the loss, allowing nine runs on as many hits in four-plus innings. Bates also had eight strikeouts.
The Colts scored their only run in the third inning. Second baseman Jon Dziomba hit a one-out single, advanced to second, and then scored on an RBI base hit by left fielder Braden Embry.
Already ahead 15-1 in the eighth, the Thunder added insult to injury with four more runs. Tempers flared late in the game, as both dugouts cleared in the ninth. Cooler heads prevailed, however, as no punches were thrown and nobody got ejected.
Thunder starter Trent Evings (3-2) earned a complete-game win. He allowed just one run on nine hits and struck out eight batters through nine innings.
The win improved McAllen to 12-16, while the loss dropped San Angelo to 15-13. The Colts travel to Alexandria, La. Saturday to begin a four-game series against the Aces at Bringhurst Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.
The Colts return home to Foster Field on Wednesday, June 26 to begin a four-game series against the Thunder.
