San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas - The San Angelo Colts announced Friday they have re-acquired catcher Bubby Williams from the El Paso Diablos of the independent American Association.
Williams, 24, began the season in San Angelo, but was traded to the Diablos on June 10 in exchange for future considerations. His return to the Colts completes that transaction.
He hit .158 with an RBI in six games for the Diablos before getting released on Thursday. Williams played his first game back with the Colts Thursday night in game two of the doubleheader against the McAllen Thunder. He is batting .169 with an RBI in 14 games for San Angelo this season.
In order to make room for Williams on the active roster, the Colts also released catcher Chris Caves. Caves hit .225 with three home runs and 17 RBIs in 22 games.
Williams and rookie Tyler Wagner are now the two catchers on San Angelo's active roster. Now in his fifth professional season, Williams has a .216 career batting average with 19 home runs and 84 RBIs in 190 games.
The Colts play the series finale against the McAllen Thunder tonight at Foster Field. It will be Rally Towel Giveaway Night, sponsored by AEP Texas. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Colts' Rally Towel, courtesy of AEP Texas. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
The Colts are in the midst of a 12-game home stand at Foster Field.
