Trenton Thunder News Release
(Reading, PA)- Reading took advantage of two 1st Inning Trenton errors to score five unearned runs en route to a 10-0 win over Trenton on Sunday afternoon and complete a three-game sweep of the series.
The Phillies (43-48) had two men on base after the error by SS Ramiro Pena. They followed with three straight RBI hits off Trenton starter Charlie Isaacson from DH Ryan Barthelemy, SS Juan Sosa and RF Chris Roberson for a 3-0 lead. A two-run error by Thunder 3B Eric Duncan made it a 5-0 game. The Phillies added a two-run homer from 1B Randy Ruiz, his 22nd of the year for a 7-0 lead in the 2nd Inning. Isaacson (5-3) was charged with seven runs (two earned) in 1 2/3 innings, his shortest outing as a starter.
Meanwhile, Reading starter Chris Rojas retired the first 13 batters faced before allowing a single to E. Duncan in the 5th Inning. Rojas (10-5) worked seven shutout innings for the win with four hits allowed. He didn't walk a batter and struck out seven.
Trenton (46-44) were held to five singles in the game and had just one base runner reach 2nd Base in the game.
The Thunder will resume play after the All-Star Break on Thursday at Waterfront Park against Bowie. Game time is 7:05 PM. Ramon Ramirez (4-4, 3.68) starts for the Thunder.
