Fisher Cats announce roster moves

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release


Manchester, NH- RHP Vince Perkins was activated from the disabled list yesterday and LHP Zach Jackson was placed on the temporary inactive list. Today, 1B Chip Cannon joins the Fisher Cats from Single-A Dunedin and 1B Vito Chiaravalloti leaves New Hampshire for Dunedin. Also, OF Jason Waugh was placed on the disabled list today.

The 23-year-old Perkins has been on the DL since June 23 with a rib injury. He is 3-4 with a 4.14 ERA in 14 starts with New Hampshire this season. The Canadian native is a member of Toronto's 40-man roster. He is not expected to start before the All-Star break. Perkins was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 18th round of the 2000 draft.

The 22-year-old Jackson left the team yesterday to participate in the Major League Futures Game at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. The Futures Game pits top prospects from all levels of the minor leagues against each other. The game is scheduled for today at 4:00 PM and will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Jackson is 2-3 with a 5.08 ERA in 7 starts with the Fisher Cats this season. He was drafted last year by Toronto in the 1st round (32nd overall).

The 23-year-old Cannon joins the Fisher Cats for the first time in his career. He began this season with the Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League and hit .268 with 11 HR and 36 RBI in 46 games. He moved up to Dunedin on June 3 and was hitting .384 with 14 HR and 39 RBI in 29 games. Cannon was drafted in 2004 by Toronto in the 8th round.

The 24-year-old Chiaravalloti has been on the DL since June 9 with a strained oblique muscle. He was hitting .236 with 3 HR and 18 RBI in 45 games with New Hampshire at the time of the injury. He spent all of last season with Dunedin, hitting .267 with 14 HR and 71 RBI. He was a 15th round pick in the 2003 draft by the Blue Jays.

The 25-year-old Waugh was placed on the disabled list with a leg contusion. He is hitting .175 with 0 HR and 4 RBI in 13 games in two stints with the Fisher Cats this season. Toronto selected him in the 11th round of the 2002 draft.
