Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Binghamton Mets combined for two runs on a pair of longballs Sunday, losing both games of a doubleheader to the Norwich Navigators, 2-1 and 4-1 at Dodd Stadium. Norwich has taken the first three of the four-game series.

In Game One, Jay Caligiuri put Binghamton ahead in the top of the fifth with his 11th home run of the year, a blast to left off Norwich reliever James Garcia (5-6). However, the Navigators got a two-run, pinch-hit home run from Eliezer Alfonzo in the bottom of the fifth to go on top for good. B-Mets starter Ken Chenard (6-7) went the distance, no-hitting Norwich for four innings and giving up just three hits in the loss. Norwich righthander Billy Sadler retired all six to face him, earning his fourth save. In the second game, Norwich (42-47) got on the board in the second on three straight two-out singles off Rafael Lopez (2-5) for a run. Norwich added another run in the third when Dan Ortmeier led off with a triple and scored on A.J. LaBarbera's sacrifice fly and made it 4-0 in the fourth when pitcher Seung Song hit a two-run double to right.

The B-Mets (40-45) got their only run in the second game on a leadoff home run by Aarom Baldiris in the sixth. Binghamton managed just five hits off Song (2-2), who struck out seven in six innings. Brian Wilson pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save. Monday, the B-Mets and Norwich wrap up their four-game series and the first half of the Eastern League season. Righthander Philip Humber will make his B-Mets debut against Norwich southpaw Brian Burres. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 from Dodd Stadium, with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
