Trenton Thunder News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Thunder exploded for five runs in the second inning and led 15-1 before the Richmond Flying Squirrels even stepped to bat in the 7th inning.
The Thunder rapped 16 hits and walked nine times in the winning effort in front of 5,163 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park. Walter Ibarra led the way with four runs scored, but Ramon Flores, Jose Pirela and Kevin Mahoney each score three each as well. Flores, Tyler Austin and J.R. Murphy combined to drive in 13 of the 15 runs for Trenton on an afternoon where the temperatures reached 60-degrees during game time.
Eight of the nine starters for Trenton reached base at least twice, and six of the nine starters recorded multi-hit games.
The victory completed a four-game sweep of the Flying Squirrels which marked the four-game sweep by the Thunder since July 1-4, 2010 against the Harrisburg Senators.
After tossing four scoreless innings Saturday night with nine strikeouts, Trenton's bullpen tossed five more scoreless innings Sunday with six strikeouts. The bullpen has not allowed an earned run since the 9th inning of Friday's game, which is a streak of 15.1 consecutive innings.
