
Thunder Announce New Community Initiative

(Trenton, NJ) - On Saturday, August 14, the Trenton Thunder will host the first ever "Good Deed Game" at Waterfront Park, giving fans three opportunities to support a local community organization. The Thunder will reward fans who support one, two or all three of the organizations.
The event will feature a blood drive to benefit the Community Blood Council of New Jersey, a school supplies drive to support the learning center at the East Trenton Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and a non-perishable food drive to benefit the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank.
The Thunder are providing incentives to fans who support these local non-profit organizations. Fans who donate to any one of the causes will receive a ticket to the Thunder 's Fan Appreciation Night vs. Akron on Thursday, September 2 at 7:05 pm. People who donate to any two of the drives will get the game ticket and a Thunder hat. Individuals who support all three causes will get the ticket, hat and on September 2nd they will be recognized on the field and throw a ceremonial pitch before the game.
The Community Blood Council of New Jersey's Blood Mobile will be parked outside the stadium beginning at 2pm on Saturday, August 14.
Fans are encouraged to make an appointment for their donation by calling 866-2GIVENJ, but walk-ins are welcome. In addition to the donor incentives listed above, the CBC-NJ will give away a pair of tickets to a Trenton Thunder luxury suite for the game on Tuesday, August 31 to one lucky blood donor. The Thunder and CBC-NJ have partnered to host many blood drives at Waterfront Park over years and this will be the third drive of 2010. CBC-NJ is a Not-For Profit 501(c)(3) Blood Council located in Trenton. CBC-NJ serves the needs of transfusion patients and hospitals in New Jersey and Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Habitat for Humanity - Trenton Area will have a table on the stadium approach where fans can drop off notebooks, paper, pencils, markers and other school supplies that will be put to use by the children who use HFH's East Trenton Learning Center. The Thunder and HFH Trenton have partnered on several initiatives this year including the Thunder staff and players participating in home builds in East Trenton. Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization that embraces people of all faiths working in partnership to build decent, affordable housing and to create healthy vibrant and self-sufficient communities. To date, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 80 homes in the Trenton area and is currently working towards rebuilding or rehabilitating 500 sites within the 150 acre East Trenton revitalization area.
The Mercer Street Friends Food Bank will be collecting non-perishable food items at a table on the stadium approach. Last season, the team hosted a food drive at the Waterfront Park and Thunder fans responded by donating over 600 pounds of food. Mercer Street Friends Food Bank, established in 1987, is the food bank for all of Mercer County. Its mission is to alleviate hunger through food distribution, nutrition education and assistance, advocacy and outreach. The Food Bank helps to feed over 20,000 low-income men, women and children at risk for hunger.
On Saturday, August 14, the Thunder will host the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals) at 7:05 pm. There will be a post-game fireworks display and it is 1980's Night. Fans are encouraged to come to the game dressed in clothing from the 1980's. There will be 80's themed trivia and music throughout the game.
The Thunder are currently off for the All-Star Break and will return to Waterfront Park on Thursday, July 15 to face the Reading Phillies in a four game series. Tickets are available by calling 609-394-3300 or online at trentonthunder.com.
