Harrisburg Senators News Release
Chase D'Arnaud of the Altoona Curve hit a grand slam to highlight a six-run seventh inning for the Western Division All Stars, and the West cruised to a 10-3 victory over the Eastern Division All Stars on Wednesday night at Metro Bank Park. D'Arnaud was named MVP of the game, which brought 8078 fans to Metro Bank Park. It was the largest crowd in the history of the ballpark.
D'Arnaud's blast broke the game open, after it had been tight throughout. Each team had two runs heading into the seventh, as each had scored two in the third inning. The East struck first in the third, getting singles from Matt Rizzotti (Reading) and Ray Chang (Portland) to begin the inning, and then a double by Nate Spears (Portland) that scored Rizzotti. Chang then scored, on a sacrifice fly by Ben Revere, to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the third, Josh Harrison of Altoona tripled to left-center field, driving in Thomas Neal (Richmond) and Danny Espinosa (Senators), to tie the score.
No more runs were scored until that seventh inning, when the West would score six to take an 8-2 lead. D'Arnaud's grand slam came after Akron's Lonnie Chisenhall singled to drive in teammate John Drennen, and put the West up 3-2. Then, after the grand slam, Andy Dirks of the Erie SeaWolves hit a solo shot to complete the scoring in the inning. New Hampshire's Brian Jeroloman brought the East one run closer in the eighth, as he drove in teammate Darin Mastroianni with a single to make it 8-3. But in the bottom of the inning, Drennen blasted a two-run homer, scoring Chris Marrero of the Senators, to bring the score to its 10-3 final.
Rafael Martin of the Senators picked up the win in the game, as he worked a perfect seventh inning, recording two strikeouts. Drew Naylor of Reading suffered the damage in the seventh, allowing all six runs, retiring just one batter, and taking the loss. Offensively, three members of the West had two hits: Harrison, Drennen, and Tyler Henson of Bowie. For the East, only Chang had two hits.
Eastern League teams return to regular season play starting on Thursday, and Metro Bank Park will host a seven-game homestand starting Thursday night. The Harrisburg Senators (44-47) take on the Altoona Curve (55-34) in a four-game set this weekend, with LHP Aaron Thompson (4-10, 5.68) getting the start for the Sens on Thursday night. He is opposed by RHP Jared Hughes (10-6, 4.27) of Altoona, who is scheduled to throw the first pitch at 7:00 PM. Radio coverage on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com begins at 6:45.
