Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, FL - The Clearwater Threshers dropped all three contests against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels on Opening Weekend after falling 6-3 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at BayCare Ballpark.

Right-hander Gunner Mayer, a 2019 fifth-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies, made his season debut and allowed two runs on two hits while striking out three in 2.1 innings of work.

The Threshers (0-3) trailed 3-0 after four innings before a solo home run by catcher Arturo De Freitas in the fifth, followed by an RBI single from right fielder Felix Reyes in the sixth trimmed the deficit to 3-2.

With Clearwater trailing 3-2 in the seventh, the Mighty Mussels (3-0) stormed back and added three more in the top half on a three-run triple by Kyler Fedco to secure the series sweep.

Clearwater returns to action on Tuesday night, opening a six-game series on the road against the St. Lucie Mets. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. at Clover Park.
