MCALLEN, Texas - Rio Grande Valley Vipers Chris Daniels, Chris Johnson and Toure Murry are set to compete at the NBA Development League's fourth annual Elite Mini Camp which will tip off today and run through tomorrow, May 14, at Chicago's Quest Multisports gym. The camp features top 2012-13 NBA D-League prospects, giving players the opportunity to display their skills and be evaluated by NBA team personnel.
The two-day event features both drill work and full-court games for players to most accurately showcase their talents. NBA front office executives and scouts are expected to be on hand to evaluate the talent, as NBA teams look to fill Summer League and training camp rosters.
This year's event is highlighted by 10 players with NBA experience, including seven who were NBA Draft selections: Keith Benson (Erie BayHawks), Justin Harper (Idaho Stampede), Darington Hobson (Santa Cruz Warriors), Lester Hudson (Austin Toros), Josh Selby (Maine Red Claws), Jermaine Taylor (Maine Red Claws), and Kyle Weaver (Canton Charge). Other NBA veterans attending the camp include Mickell Gladness (Santa Cruz Warriors), Cory Higgins (Erie BayHawks), and Edwin Ubiles Three members of the 2013 NBA D-League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Chris Daniels, Chris Johnson and Toure Murry, round out the 35-player field.
"The NBA D-League is thrilled to provide this opportunity for some of the league's top prospects to work out in front of NBA scouts and front office personnel," said Chris Alpert, the NBA D-League's vice president of basketball operations and player personnel. "It's exciting to see such a talented group of guys take the floor to display their skills, and I'm looking forward to watching them use this event as a way to further their development and their careers."
Nine NBA D-League coaches will run the drills and exercises during the camp, while players who competed for 14 of the 16 NBA D-League teams during the 2012-13 season will participate in the event.
