River City Rascals News Release
O'Fallon, MO - Back-to-back-to-back, that is how the River City Rascals went in the second inning, hitting three straight home runs for the first time this season on way to a 12-3 win over the Florence Freedom Saturday night.
First it was Phil Laurent to connect off Everett Saul, then it was Andrew Sweet, then it was Ryan Wehrle. The home runs put the Rascals on top 4-0 and River City would add four more in the inning. Brad Hough doubled in two and Jeff Miller doubled in another. Jimmy Baker reached on a fielder choice which also drove in a run. The three solo home runs in the second inning came after Dan Maycock homered in the first, his fifth of the season.
That would be more than Danny Powers needed on way to his sixth win of the season. Powers, now 6-5, allowed three earned runs in seven innings. The right-hander struck out nine Freedom.
Sweet would go on to drive in four runs in the game as he later doubled in the fourth inning to clear the bases and put the Rascals on top 11-0. The final run for River City came in the fifth with a fielder choice off the bat of Laurent.
Tim Stringer made his Rascals debut and went the final two innings without allowing a run. Stringer struck out the side in the ninth. Saul (6-4) has now lost two straight against the Rascals and lasted only 1.1 innings, allowing six earned runs.
The Rascals (36-38) go for their fifth straight series win Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. against Florence. Jake Laber (1-3, 4.67 ERA) will throw for River City. On Sunday, be one of the first 1,000 fans through the gates and get a Steve Brook Bobble Head compliments of Aramark. For tickets call the Rascals at (636) 240-BATS.
