Three-Run First Inning Propels Barons to 3-1 Win over Lookouts

The Birmingham Barons scored three runs in the first inning to propel themselves to a 3-1 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts.

In the first inning Lookouts starting pitcher Anthony Marzi allowed a first inning three run homer to Zack Collins. After that homer Marzi settled and delivered four straight shutout innings. The lefty finished the day with a season-high 11 strikeouts.

After Marzi left in the fifth Andrew Vasquez came in and delivered another two scoreless innings. Ryne Harper finished the game with two scoreless innings of his own. So far this seres Lookouts relievers have combined for 11.1 scoress linnings.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Chattanooga threatened with the bases loaded and scored their only run of the night on a Jaylin Davis base hit.

Tomorrow, the two teams meet for the last game of their four game series. LHP Lewis Thorpe will take the mound opposite LHP Matt Tomshaw (4-4, 5.32 ERA).
