Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (46-39) battled in a long one, but ultimately came up short in an 8-7 loss in 11 innings to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (41-42) on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Genesis Cabrera did not have his best stuff in his 17

th start of the season, going just 4.1 innings and allowing five runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts in a no-decision, as the Biscuits fell behind 6-1 midway through five.

After five strong innings of one-run ball from Wahoos starter Seth Varner, the Biscuits finally started to chip away at the Pensacola bullpen thanks to David Rodriguez' RBI-fielder's choice in the sixth. In the seventh, the Biscuits tallied three more runs thanks to a throwing error by Taylor Sparks, an RBI-single by Brett Sullivan, and a Nathan Lukes sac fly to make it 6-5.

The Biscuits couldn't get another run across in the eighth, but in the ninth, Nick Solak sat on a slider and drilled a game-tying solo home run off Pensacola closer, Alex Powers, who blew his first save of the season, which knotted the game at six.

Neither team could do anything in the 10th inning as they shifted to extras, but in the 11th, with Cassidy Brown beginning the inning on second, TJ Friedl climbed in and ripped an RBI-triple to hand the Wahoos a lead again at 7-6. A Brian O'Grady sac fly scored Friedl from third, and the Blue Wahoos increased their lead to 8-6.

In the bottom of the 11th, the Biscuits brought across a run to pull within one courtesy of a Peter Maris RBI-single, but Nate Lowe popped out to the catcher Brown to end the game against Alejandro Chacin.

The Biscuits will try to split the series on Saturday night when Sam McWilliams (3-4) takes on Vladimir Gutierrez (5-8) at 6:05 PM when it will be Christmas in July at Riverwalk Stadium with postgame MAX Fireworks.
