Lund's 2 Homers Lift BayBears Past Jumbo Shrimp, 7-3

MOBILE, Ala. - Mobile BayBears left fielder Brennon Lund hit a pair of two-run home runs and drove in five runs to lead his team to a 7-3 win that gave the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp their season-high ninth straight loss in the third game of a four-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium Friday night.

For the second straight game, the Jumbo Shrimp (3-12 second half, 31-52 overall) took the game's first lead in Mobile. In the third inning against BayBears right-hander Joe Gatto, Left fielder Brian Miller had a leadoff bunt single and went to second base on Gatto's throwing error. Gatto walked center fielder Monte Harrison and threw a wild pitch to put both runners in scoring position. With two outs, shortstop Joe Dunand hit a two-run double to center field.

The 2-0 lead lasted until the bottom of the inning, when Mobile (9-5, 46-36) tied the game against right-hander Merandy Gonzalez (0-3), who walked designated hitter Riley Unroe to begin the inning. With one out, Lund hit a two-run, game-tying home run to right field. In a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, Jose Rojas hit a leadoff triple to center field. With one out, center fielder Brandon Sandoval hit a go-ahead RBI double to right field. Unroe walked, and second baseman Luis Rengifo singled to left field, loading the bases for Lund to bring in another run with a groundout. Gonzalez allowed four earned runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings.

Jacksonville trimmed the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning. Miller singled to center field, Harrison grounded into a fielder's choice, and second baseman Isan Diaz hit an RBI double. With the tying run at second base, Gatto struck out designated hitter Peter O'Brien, and right-hander Ralston Cash (1-1) retired Dunand on a popout. Cash worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings, before left-hander Adrian Almeida went two innings, and right-hander Dario Beltre pitched one inning. Meanwhile, Mobile added a three-run sixth inning for a 7-3 lead against Jacksonville right-hander Reilly Hovis. With one out, Unroe walked, Rengifo hit an RBI triple to center field, and Lund added his second two-run home run to right field.

UP NEXT: The Jumbo Shrimp will conclude their series in Mobile at 8:05 p.m. Saturday. The Jumbo Shrimp return home to begin a nine-game homestand with the opener of a four-game series against Chattanooga at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. Gates open at 5 p.m., when families can play catch on the field, followed by player autographs as part of Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday presented by Wolfson Children's Hospital Rehab. Kids activities will be in the Wolfson Children's Hospital Kids Zone, and following the game, kids 12 and under can run the bases. Star Wars Night presented by Bowden Eye & Associates includes face painting, balloon animals, and the chance to meet Star Wars characters in person, thanks to the 501st Legion and WasabiCon.
