Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - In a pivotal Turner Conference matchup between the Rapid City Rush and Quad City Mallards on Tuesday night, the Flock converted on three of five powerplay chances to earn a 3-2 win. The Rush now head home for a season-long eight-game homestand, beginning with a pair of games against the Tulsa Oilers this Friday and Saturday. Tickets are still available for both games by calling 716-PUCK (7825) or online at gotmine.com.

Unable to stay out of the penalty box, the Rush gave up four powerplay chances in which the Mallards were able to convert on two of them. The first goal came midway through the first period on a screened shot from the right point by John Snowden who picked up his fifth powerplay goal of the season. Just over five minutes later, a pass by Jared Brown allowed Justin Chwedoruk to break in and snap a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot, beating Tim Boron under the blocker for the 2-0 lead.

In similar fashion, the Rush netted to goals in the second period, beginning near the midway point. At 11:04 of the middle stanza, Shawn Limpright cut to the slot and looked to send a pass to the back door, but had it knocked down by a Mallards defender. However, the defender's momentum carried him into goaltender David Brown and allowed the puck into the net, cutting the lead in half. Four minutes later, the Rush evened the score in similar fashion when Mike Vaskivuo had his centering pass deflected by a Mallards skater and past Brown, evening the score at 2-2 heading into the third period.

Less than two minutes into the final period, the Mallards converted on yet another powerplay chance, this time getting the team-leading 16th goal of the season from Brandon Marino for the eventual game-winner.
