Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo wrap up a two-game derby swing later this evening when they visit Sporting Kansas City at Children's Mercy Park.

The Dynamo aim to snap a six-game winless streak after falling in the second leg of the Texas Derby last Sunday in Frisco. Memo Rodriguez scored the only goal for Houston as the Dynamo fell 5-1 to their in-state rivals. This was the first loss for interim head coach Davy Arnaud after he opened his tenure with a 2-2 draw with the Colorado Rapids at BBVA Stadium on Aug. 17.

Arnaud is very familiar with Sporting Kansas City after spending the bulk of his professional career in the City of Fountains. Arnaud was drafted by Kansas City in 2002 and spent 10 seasons with Sporting where he finished with 43 goals and 35 assists in 240 appearances. The Nederland, Texas native also served as captain of the team in 2010.

Arnaud will face his former coach Peter Vermes on Sunday and look to snap a four-game winless streak for Houston in the all-time series. Houston leads the all-time series with a 10-7-13 record, but the last Dynamo victory came on Oct. 11, 2017 as Houston defeated Kansas City 2-1 with goals from Tomas Martinez and Erik Palmer-Brown.

Houston will return to BBVA Stadium on Sept. 11 to host Darwin Quintero and Minnesota United for Responders Night, presented by Bud Light.

Here are three key points ahead of Saturday's game:

ROUND TWO - The first meeting between both clubs earlier this year finished in a 1-1 draw at BBVA Stadium after Alberth Elis scored in the 69th minute to secure a point for Houston on June 1. The Dynamo will look to the Honduran international to match Kansas City's firepower in Jhonny Russell and Krisztian Nemeth who have combined for 15 goals and nine assists this season. Russell enters Saturday's game with an assist in back-to-back games as Kansas City looks to make the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season.

SPORTING ON THE RISE - The Dynamo will also look to contain midfielder Felipe Gutierrez, who leads the team in goals with 10 and has tallied two assists this season with Kansas City. The Chilean midfielder has scored two goals in the last five games for Kansas City as Sporting has earned nine points from 15 disputed in that stretch. Saturday's game is the final match of a three-game homestand for Kansas City who defeated the San Jose Earthquakes and Minnesota United to open the stretch at Children's Mercy Park.

FIFA BREAK AROUND THE CORNER -- As of Saturday morning, five Dynamo players were named to their national team for the upcoming FIFA window. Alberth Elis and Maynor Fiueroa will join Honduras for two friendlies as they face Puerto Rico on Sept. 5 and Chile on Sept. 10. The Honduran duo will face their Dynamo teammate Jose Bizama who was also named to the Chilean National Team. Bizama will join Chile for a friendly against Argentina in Los Angeles on Sept. 5 and five days later face Honduras in San Pedro Sula. Darwin Ceren will join El Salvador for two Concacaf Nation's League matches as they host Saint Lucia on Sept.7 and travel to the Dominican Republic on Sept. 10. Kiki Struna will join Slovenia for two UEFA EURO qualifying matches as they face Slovenia and Israel in Group G play.
