Orlando City SC News Release
Against the Opposition
In four all-time meetings against San Jose Earthquakes, the Lions hold an unbeaten record of 1-0-3 with two draws on the road and a draw and a victory at Exploria Stadium. That victory came last season when San Jose visited the City Beautiful, with the Lions earning a 3-2 win in the match. Chris Mueller scored the earliest goal in Club-history in the second minute of the game, a record that still stands. Sacha Kljestan and Dom Dwyer each found the back of the net on the afternoon to secure the win.
Close to Club History
With 36 goals conceded through 28 matches, the Lions remain on course to set a Club record for the least amount of goals conceded in a single-season. The current record sits at 56, set in the Lions' inaugural season in MLS in 2015. If City remains on their current pace, it is set to concede 44 finishes this season, a 30-goal improvement from last year. The Lions also sit one shutout away from breaking their Club-record of seven in a single season, set in both 2015 and 2017.
Back On the Road
City heads back out on the road having earned a result in five of their last seven matches away from home dating back to June 26. In that span, the Lions have earned a victory at Columbus and draws at Philadelphia, Portland, Toronto and Minnesota with their two losses coming at D.C. United and New England. City sits two road wins shy of totaling their highest victory total away from home since earning five road wins in the Club's inaugural season in 2015.
Facing the West
The Lions now face back-to-back matches against Western Conference opponents, set to host LAFC on Saturday, September 7 following their trip to San Jose this weekend. The Lions hold a 4-3-2 record against the Western Conference this season, unbeaten in their last four matches against Western opposition dating back to July 18. In that span, City has earned shutout victories at home over FC Dallas and Sporting Kansas City, along with 1-1 draws on the road at Portland and Minnesota.
Tesho Time
Tesho Akindele has had a career-year in Orlando in his first season as a Lion. The forward has set a new career-high in goals in MLS play with nine, and has started more games (19) this season than any year previous. During the 2018 campaign with FC Dallas, Akindele started five contests, registering only 577 minutes, compared to his 19 starts and 1,570 minutes with City. The Canadian International has also set career-highs in shots (36), shots on goal (18), and points (20). ta
