New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. (June 2, 2015) - New York Red Bulls defenders Karl Ouimette, Kemar Lawrence and Roy Miller have all been selected to represent their respective countries for international matches.
Ouimette has received the call for Canada's home-and-away series against Dominica, while Lawrence has been named to Jamaica's final roster for the 2015 Copa America. Miller has also been called into camp for Costa Rica, and will join the Ticos for a friendly against Spain.
All three players will be available for the Red Bulls Friday at Houston before departing to join their countrymen.
With the next FIFA World Cup qualifying odyssey set to begin for Canada's Men's National Team, head coach Benito Floro named his 23-man squad that will look to get things off on the right foot with a home-and-away series against Dominica.
In his first year with New York, Ouimette has appeared in five games and has made four starts at center back for the Red Bulls in 2015.
The team convenes in Orlando on June 7 for a few days of training in Florida prior to flying to Roseau, Dominica, on June 10. They play at Warner Park in Roseau on June 11 before flying to Toronto the next day to prepare for the second leg at BMO Field in Toronto on Tuesday, June 16.
The home-and-away series kick-starts a busy summer for the team as the FIFA World Cup qualifiers will lead into July's 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Should Canada win the series against Dominica, they'll go into the draw for the third and fourth rounds of qualifying. The draw for those rounds takes place on July 25 and would see another home-and-away series in the third round in September before entering the fourth round in a four-team round robin competition that would start in November.
Lawrence earns his second call up for Jamaica since joining the Red Bulls via transfer from Harbour View FC in the offseason. The left back also joined the team for a pair of friendlies at the end of March after making his first MLS start against D.C. United. The 22-year-old has made 14 appearances for the Reggae Boyz senior team since 2013.
Lawrence stepped into the starting lineup for New York after Miller suffered an injury in training early in the season. He has played in nine games for New York overall and has been integral to the success of the backline.
The Reggae Boyz open the Copa America with a match against Uruguay on June 13, before facing Paraguay (June 16) and Argentina on June 20 to round out group play.
Should Jamaica continue to advance, the tournament finals are set for Saturday, July 4.
Miller will join the Costa Rican team in Madrid for a match against Spain on June 11. Costa Rica will also face Colombia on Saturday, June 6, while Miller remains with the Red Bulls for a match in Houston.
The longest-tenured Red Bulls player has represented his country at all levels, including last summer's FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Miller has earned 51 caps for the Ticos overall.
Miller suffered an injury in March after the Red Bulls' season-opener. He returned and played a full 90 against Colorado on April 29, and earned a start at center back, his normal position with the national team, on May 24th against Philadelphia. Miller has made four appearances for New York this season, and is ninth all-time in franchise history with 123 appearances to his name.
