Richmond, VA - The Atlanta Braves have assigned RHP Jonathan Johnson, RHP Blaine Boyer, and OF T.J. Bohn to the Triple-A Richmond Braves roster. Ten players have now been sent from big league camp to the R-Braves, including RHP Joey Devine, 1B-C Carlos Mendez, OF Gregor Blanco, RHP Jose Ascanio, RHP Anthony Lerew, RHP Manny Acosta, RHP Phil Stockman, Boyer, Bohn, and Johnson. In addition C Iker Franco, RHP Kevin Barry, and LHP Matt Harrison have been assigned to minor league camp.
Boyer pitched in only two games last season before undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in April. He was briefly assigned to Richmond just prior to his surgery last season but did not pitch. As a rookie with Atlanta in 2005 he appeared in 43 games with a 3.11 ERA. Boyer was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in five outings with Atlanta this spring.
Bohn is in his first season with the Braves. He made his big league debut with Seattle last season. Bohn also played for now R-Braves manager Dave Brundage in Tacoma last season where he hit .283. Bohn hit .222 with five RBU in 21 Grapefruit League games.
Johnson cleared waivers and was outrighted to Richmond. He came out of retirement last season to join Richmond and was 2-3 with a 3.48 ERA in 23 outings for the R-Braves. Johnson was added to Atlanta's 40-man major league roster in the off-season. Johnson was 0-3 with an 11.88 ERA in five appearances in Grapefruit League play.
