Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, Calif. - With two goal contributions, Monterey Bay F.C. forward Sam Gleadle has been named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 13 of the 2023 regular season. Also representing the Crisp and Kelp on the Team of the Week bench is midfielder James Murphy, and for two goal contributions of his own, forward Christian Volesky.
Gleadle earns Team of the Week honors with the opening goal of the match and an assist on Saturday night. The opening goal came in the 33rd minute of the match with a smash into the bottom of the far post netting to give the Union its first goal in over 125 minutes - the spark to another explosive four goal display for Monterey Bay. In addition, Gleadle completed 20 of 26 passes and three chances created.
Murphy slots onto the Week 13 bench for two solid performances in the midfield this past week. Defensively, Murphy won 13 of 21 duels and recorded seven interceptions, seven tackles and four clearances. In the attack, he created five chances and completed 75 of his 102 total passes for a 73.5% pass success rate between the two matches.
Volesky also made the Team of the Week bench for his performance over the week. After assisting on Gleadle's opening goal in the 33rd minute, Volesky scored a goal of his own in the 89th minute of the match, a clean-up goal after a shot from teammate Simon Dawkins ricocheted off the post and back into play. Another day, another multi-goal contribution outing for Frank Yallop's top-choice striker.
