FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - FC Tulsa announced on Tuesday that the club has acquired midfielder and 2021 ULS Championship title winner Tommy McCabe from Detroit City FC via transfer. In two corresponding moves, Tulsa has transferred forward Darío Suárez and defender Brett Levis to Detroit City.
McCabe joins Tulsa after appearing in 11 matches for Detroit City FC in 2023 where he ranked second on the club in total passes (458). Distribution has been a strong suit of McCabe's over his four-year USL Championship career as the 25-year-old has compiled an 85.5% passing accuracy mark while also winning 53.5% of his attempted duels.
"Tommy brings a championship pedigree to Tulsa," said Blair Gavin. "His ability to control the tempo of the game both with and without the ball will be helpful in playing our game. He will fit right into the group and help contribute to our overall team goals."
McCabe was selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by FC Cincinnati to kick off his professional career. Amid two separate loan spells with the USL Championship's North Carolina FC in 2019 and Memphis 901 FC in 2020, McCabe totaled seven MLS appearances for Cincinnati before siding with Orange County SC in 2021-2022.
With Orange County, McCabe lifted the USL Championship trophy in 2021 after appearing in 31 of the club's 32 regular season matches, as well as starting all four of its playoff contests.
Internationally, McCabe has a handful of caps for the Stars and Stripes' youth system, highlighted by an appearance in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup against Croatia.
"I'm excited to be here," said McCabe. "I believe FC Tulsa plays the game the right way and has a goal of being a winning team in this league. I hope to bring my experience in this league and contribute to the club's goals on and off the field in any way I can."
In two corresponding moves, Darío Suárez and Brett Levis have been transferred to Detroit City.
Suárez departs Tulsa as the franchise's second-leading scorer all-time with 29 goals, 10 assists, and 89 appearances dating back to 2020. Levis signed with FC Tulsa this past offseason and appeared eight times for the club.
"Darío has brought a lot of joy to Tulsa with not only his quality on the field, but his goodness as a person," said Gavin. "We wish Dario all the best in his next adventure and hope for continued success in Detroit."
"We also want to thank Brett for his time in Tulsa and the special connections he made with the team and city," Gavin continued. "We wish him all the best."
McCabe will be available for selection to Blair Gavin ahead of FC Tulsa's match at Loudoun United FC on Friday, June 9.
