Three Hammerheads Named to All-Star Team

June 1, 2012 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, FL - The Florida State League office announced today the rosters for the 2012 All-Star team which includes three Jupiter Hammerheads. Outfielders Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich along with catcher J.T. Realmuto will represent the South Division at the 51st annual All-Star Game at Charlotte Sports Park on Saturday, June 16.

Ozuna is currently leading the Hammerheads with nine homers, 28 RBI and 32 runs scored in 2012. His 89 total bases also lead the team. Ozuna is currently ranked second in the FSL in home runs. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native was signed by the Marlins as a non-drafted free agent in 2008.

Despite missing Jupiter's first nine games with an elbow injury, Yelich leads the Hammerheads in doubles and stolen bases at 11 a piece. His 29 runs scored and seven home runs are second on the team. The All- Star nod is the second in as many full seasons for the 20-year old as the Marlins' first round pick in 2010 (23rd overall) was also a South Atlantic League All-Star last year.

Like Ozuna, this will be the first All-Star honor for Realmuto. Among catchers named to the All-Star team, Realmuto is tied for the lead with four home runs and is second with 22 runs scored. His nine stolen bases and 60 total bases are good for second and third on the Hammerheads, respectively. Realmuto has allowed just three pass balls this season and is throwing out 37% of opposing base runners behind the dish. Realmuto was a third round pick by the Marlins in 2010.
