Four Stone Crabs Named to 2012 FSL All-Star Team
June 1, 2012 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
The Florida State League announced the 2012 Mid-Season All-Star rosters on Friday. Four Charlotte Stone Crabs were among the players named to represent the South Division. Shortstop Derek Dietrich, outfielder Mikie Mahtook, and pitchers Chris Rearick and C.J. Riefenhauser all earned the honor for their fine contributions in the first half.
Dietrich, 22, has been one of Charlotte's most productive hitters thus far. He currently ranks second in the FSL with six triples and third overall in the league in extra-base hits. The powerful shortstop led all Tampa Bay farmhands with 22 home runs last season and is being named an All-Star for the third time in his career. The Rays selected Dietrich in the second round of the 2010 Draft out of Georgia Tech University.
Mahtook, 22, made his professional debut this season after being chosen in the first round of the 2011 June Draft. Selected out of Louisiana State University, Mahtook led the SEC in both batting average and steals last year and is likewise pacing the Stone Crabs with a .287 average and 10 stolen bases this season.
Rearick, 24, becomes an All-Star for the second time in his three-year career in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Serving as Charlotte's closer this season, Rearick has converted 10-of-11 save opportunities. The lefty reliever has turned in a 1.88 ERA in 24 innings over 17 appearances and is averaging 12.75 SO/9 IP. Rearick was selected in the 41st Round of the 2010 Draft out of North Georgia College and State University.
Riefenhauser, 22, has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the league thus far in 2012. The lefty began his season as a long reliever, but moved into the starting rotation in mid-May. He has appeared in 13 games, going 6-1 with a 2.30 ERA. Riefenhauser is tied for the league lead in victories, while his ERA ranks fourth best in the FSL, as do his 60 strikeouts. He was named to both the Midwest League mid and post-season All-Star teams last year. The Rays took Riefenhauser in the 20th round of the 2009 Draft out of Chipola Junior College.
The 51st FSL All-Star Game will be played at Charlotte Sports Park on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 7:05 p.m. There will be a Home Run Derby prior to the game at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (941) 206-HITS or visiting the Sports Park box office.
