
Castellanos, Garcia, McCann & Rondon Selected to Florida State League All-Star Team

Lakeland, FL - The Florida State League (FSL) 2012 All-Star teams have been announced by League President Chuck Murphy. Third Baseman Nick Castellanos, Outfielder Avisail Garcia, Catcher James McCann and closer Bruce Rondon will represent the Flying Tigers at the 51st annual FSL All-Star Game. The game will take place at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, home of the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Rays), on Saturday, June 16 at 7:05 p.m. At 20 years old, Castellanos and Garcia are two of the youngest players in the Florida State League.
Third Baseman Nick Castellanos currently leads the FSL in batting average (.409), hits (81), doubles (16), on-base percentage (.469), slugging percentage (.556) and total bases (110). Castellanos' .409 batting average and 81 hits lead all of Minor League Baseball. No other player in Minor League Baseball is hitting over .400. His .469 on-base percentage is currently third in Minor League Baseball. This is Castellanos' third professional season. He was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 1st round (44 overall) of the June 2010 draft and was the Detroit Tigers Minor League Player of the Year in 2011 while playing at West Michigan.
Outfielder Avisail Garcia is currently eleventh in the FSL with a .297 batting average. Garcia leads the Flying Tigers with 5 home runs, is second on the team in runs scored (26) and RBI (23) and is third on the team in hits (52) despite missing 8 games due to a hamstring injury. Defensively Garcia leads the FSL with 9 assists. This is Garcia's fifth professional season. He was signed by the Tigers as a non-drafted free agent in 2007.
Catcher James McCann is currently hitting .274 with 19 runs scored, 8 doubles and 17 RBI for the Flying Tigers. McCann excels with men on base. He is hitting .297 with men on base and .306 with runners in scoring position. He also thrives at Marchant Stadium with a .345 batting average at home. McCann was selected by the Tigers in the second round of last year's June draft. This is his second professional season.
Relief Pitcher Bruce Rondon is currently tied for third in the league with 10 saves. In 17.1 innings pitched this season, Rondon has allowed only 10 hits while striking out 24 batters. He is currently 8th in the FSL with 15 games finished. Rondon has been especially tough lately, not allowing a run over his last
11 outings, fanning 15 batters in 12.0 scoreless innings. This is Rondon's fifth professional season. He was signed by the Tigers as a non-drafted free agent in 2007.
