June 1, 2012 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Clearwater Threshers News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Florida State League and President Chuck Murphy have announced the 2012 All-Star Team that includes four members of the Clearwater Threshers. Pitchers Jesse Biddle, Adam Morgan, and Austin Wright will represent the North Division along with catcher Cameron Rupp. The game will be played at Charlotte Sports Park, home of the Charlotte Stone Crabs, on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 7:05pm.
The Threshers have the third-most players on the North squad, trailing Daytona with five players and Dunedin with six. This will be the third straight season the Threshers send four players to the game, as last year also featured three pitchers and a catcher.
After an up-and-down April, Biddle has become one of the league's most dominant starting pitchers. In six starts in the month of May, he went 2-0 with a 1.36 ERA. For the season, he is 2-2 with a 2.86 ERA, with 52 strikeouts in 50 innings. Just 20 years old, the first-round draft pick in 2010 is the youngest member of the Threshers roster.
Morgan owns a 2-4 record with a 3.36 ERA, and is the league leader in strikeouts with 70 in just 59 innings. After being drafted in the third round last year out of the University of Alabama, Morgan finished with a 2.01 ERA in 53.2 innings with the class-A Williamsport Crosscutters.
Wright is 5-0 on the year with a 3.61 ERA, and is fifth in the league in strikeouts with 54 over 52.1 innings. An eighth-round pick last season out of the University of Mississippi, he finished with a 3.03 ERA and 85 strikeouts over 68.1 innings last year between Williamsport and class-A Lakewood. He recorded back-to-back 10-strikeout starts for Clearwater on April 22 and 27.
Rupp is in his third season of professional baseball after being selected in the third round in 2010 out of the University of Texas. The 23-year-old is batting .226 and is second on the team with three home runs. He has a .992 fielding percentage on the year, and has thrown out 28% of opposing base-stealers.
