Idaho Steelheads News Release
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA- The Steelheads (13-10-2) gave up three second period goals, and that's all the Alaska Aces (16-7-1) needed to secure a second win in a row against their division rival, the Idaho Steelheads.
The first period looked the same tonight as it did a night ago, with the Steelheads and Aces playing to a scoreless tie after one period. Jean-Philippe Lamoureux stopped all 10 shots he faced in the first period, while Rejean Beauchemin stopped the three Alaska shots he faced; Alaska also only managed three shots in Friday night's game. The first period did end with fireworks, though, as Idaho's Brent Shepheard tangled with former Steelhead Lance Galbraith.
Bryan McGregor opened the scoring at 2:04 of the second for the Steelheads, as he tucked a back-door pass from Garett Bembridge behind Lamoureux. Like last night, Alaska carried a lead into the third period; after 40 minutes, Alaska had a 3-1 lead. At 4:31 Nick Tuzzolino evened the score with his first of the season. Erik Fabian and Alexandre Imbeault picked up assists on the goal. At 7:15 of the second, Vladimir Novak netted the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner; a shorthanded tally, with Cam Keith and Nick Tuzzolino adding assists. Keith, at 15:53, scored his eighth to make it 3-1, with Bryan Miller and Colin Hemingway tallying assists.
The lone goal in the third period came off the stick of Riley Weselowski with less than seven seconds to go in the game, as Weselowski took a Mark Bomersback pass, and deposited the puck behind Lamoureux. However, it wasn't enough to bring the Steelheads back.
Beauchemin stopped 21 of 24 shots and falls to 7-5-2 with the loss. Lamoureux improves to 13-5-1 with the win; he steered aside 27 of 29 Idaho shots this evening.
