Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers beat the visiting Charlotte Checkers for the second time in as many meetings with a 3-2 victory on Sunday at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

Similar to Friday night's meeting, the Checkers were the first to light the lamp with a goal from Matthew Ford at 11:24 of the first. Paul Drew, making his second straight start for the Bombers, would face just five more shots in the frame compared to 11 shots by the Bombers at Charlotte's Maxime Daigneault; however, the Bombers would trail 1-0 at the end of one.

Dan Riedel evened the score at one a piece at the nine minute mark of the second, assisted by Jarret Lukin and Nino Musitelli. Lukin extended his current point streak to five games on the play. The Checkers would regain the lead in the period when Peter Tsimikalis netted his seventh of the season past Drew. At the end of the period the Bombers were outshooting the Checkers 20-13.

It was all Dayton in the third as Justin Bowers tallied his team-leading 27th point of the season off a goal assisted by Joe Van Culin just seven and a half minutes into the period. Then forty seconds later Ryan Smyth scored the eventual game-winner from Nathan Schwartzbauer and Les Reaney. The Checkers came with many late attempts at Drew, but the Bombers would hold on to the 3-2 lead to give Drew his sixth win of the season.

The Bombers finished the night 0 for 4 on the power play and 1 of 2 on the penalty kill. Drew was 22 of 24, while Daigneault went 30 of 33.
