Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - On a special night that saw the Victoria Salmon Kings host their third annual Teddy Bear Toss, the Phoenix RoadRunners faced the Salmon Kings for the third time this week finishing their two-game set. Goaltender Julien Ellis started in net for the Kings while the RoadRunners countered with Kyle Jones.

The Salmon Kings Wes Goldie started the scoring 4:46 into the first period to give the Salmon Kings an early lead. That would be Goldie's 100th goal as a Salmon King. Goldie becomes the first player in team history to attain that mark. Following Goldie's goal fans peppered the ice with a surplus of Teddy Bears. Goldie was not finished there, netting his second goal of the game and 18th on the season 16:12 into the first. The RoadRunners responded with a power play marker of their own at 17:06 from a Brett Peterson shot, closing in on the Kings lead. That would round up the scoring for the first period, Salmon Kings 2, RoadRunners 1.

The second period saw Goldie pick up where he left off in the first. A mere 3:19 into the second period he buried his third goal of the contest, that would be the Kings second hat trick of the season. Olivier Filion would add to the Kings lead after finishing off a 2-1 rush with Dan Gendur at 10:46. The RoadRunners Kimbi Daniels would cut the Kings lead in half with his 7th goal of the season, coming at 14:38 of the second. Matt Kelly would round off the scoring for the second frame at 17:57. That would conclude the scoring going into the third, Salmon Kings 5, Roadrunners 2.

Jacob Dietrich would finish up the scoring for the night with his fifth of the season at 19:17 in the final frame. Salmon Kings 6 RoadRunners 2.

Victoria went 2/9= 22.2% on the power play and Phoenix ended 1/4= 25%. The Kings out shot the RoadRunners 34-27.

The Salmon Kings welcome the Alaska Aces to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for a three-game set beginning Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. The teams will meet on Friday and Saturday evenings with puck drop at 7:05 p.m. both nights. The Kings will then take Christmas off before starting a three game road trip in Stockton on the 27th.
