ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves and Rockford IceHogs traded goals for two periods before the IceHogs earned the edge with three markers in the final 20 minutes, defeating the Wolves, 6-4, at the Allstate Arena Sunday night.

With the score knotted, 3-3, the IceHogs pulled ahead, 2:32 into the final frame with Jack Skille's second marker of the game. The right wing let loose a shot which surprised Wolves goaltender Drew MacIntyre as he came out of the crease and bounced over his leg.

Rockford (18-15-2-1) solidified its lead with the eventual game-winner when Mark Cullen came around the net and jammed the puck between MacIntyre and the post to give the IceHogs the game's first two goal lead, 5-3, at 7:22 of the third period.

"I'm not disappointed with our effort," said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever. "We played well enough to win. We scored enough goals to win. But they got some goals we'd probably like to have back."

Right wing Spencer Machacek gave Chicago (15-15-0-2) an early 1-0 lead with a shorthanded goal at 11:03 of the first period. The forward beat an IceHog for the puck near the blue line, walked into the Rockford zone, moved to the side of the net and flipped the puck past Rockford netminder Joe Fallon.

A two-man shorthanded breakaway helped the IceHogs pull even with 1:32 left to play in the first period. With Chicago working on the power play, Bracken Kearns and Skille found themselves alone in the Wolves zone. Kearns slipped a centering pass to Skille, who fired it past MacIntyre to even the score, 1-1.

Jassen Cullimore put the IceHogs up, 2-1, with 13 seconds left in the opening frame when his long shot from the blue line found its way through traffic and past MacIntyre.

Wolves right wing Tim Stapleton knotted the score at two, 5:56 into the second period with his 14th goal of the season. Parked at the right corner of the crease, Stapleton pounced on a pass from Joey Crabb when a Rockford defender misplayed an attempt to clear it from the crease and knocked it past Fallon.

Fallon (9-8-0) turned aside 33 shots for the IceHogs.

Chicago regained the lead at 10:51 of the middle frame with Machacek's second of the game. Defenseman Arturs Kulda wristed a shot from the high slot, which Fallon knocked down, but the puck bounced right to Machacek who roofed home the rebound.

Defenseman Daryl Boyle tied it up again, 3-3, at 16:22 of the second period when his fourth tally of the season found its way past MacIntyre and into the back of the net.

MacIntyre (8-11-1) posted 24 saves for Chicago.

IceHogs center Even Brophey added an empty net tally with 1:02 left to play, while Wolves center Riley Holzapfel snagged a power-play goal for Chicago with three seconds remaining in the game to round out scoring, 6-4.

The Wolves host the Houston Aeros at the Allstate Arena on Wed., Jan. 30, at 7 p.m.
