Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC today announced that three of its players have received international call-ups: Luis Diaz, David Guzman and Eloy Room. Crew midfielders Diaz and Guzman are slated to join Costa Rica for an international friendly against Uruguay on September 6. Room is scheduled to join Curacao ahead of a pair of Concacaf Nations League matches against Haiti on September 7 and on September 10.
The announcement brings the number of Crew SC players receiving call-ups in the upcoming window to five as the Club previously announced U.S. Men's National Team call-ups for midfielder Wil Trapp and Gyasi Zardes.
Costa Rica is scheduled to host Uruguay in an international friendly on Friday, September 6 at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose Costa Rica. The contest is set to be Costa Rica's last friendly ahead of their Concacaf Nations League Group Stage matches in October. Luis Diaz had previously earned a call-up to Costa Rica ahead of the 2019 Concacaf Gold earlier this summer. David Guzman has earned 54 caps for Costa Rica since making his debut for Los Ticos in an international friendly against Switzerland in June 1, 2010. He has represented Costa Rica at the FIFA World Cup (2018), Copa America (2011), the Gold Cup (2011, 2015, 2017) and the Copa Centroamericana (2011, 2017).
Curacao is set to face Haiti home and away in two Concacaf Nations League Group Stage matches. Curacao hosts Haiti at the Stadion Ergilio Hato in Willemstad, Curacao on Saturday, September 7 before facing Haiti at Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Curacao is in League A, Group D of the Concacaf Nations League alongside Costa Rica and Haiti. Eloy Room has earned 30 caps with the Curacao National Team, posting nine shutouts. The goalkeeper made his debut with Curacao in 2015, starting and recording a shutout in a Concacaf World Cup Qualifier against Cuba on June 6. Most recently, Room started for Curacao in all four matches at the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, helping the team reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Crew SC's current roster features nine players that have received a senior National Team call-up in the last 12 months: Harrison Afful, Luis Diaz, Waylon Francis, David Guzman, Jonathan Mensah, Eloy Room, Wil Trapp, Romario Williams and Gyasi Zardes.
