Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Monday July 20, 2009) - Chivas USA's Jorge Flores, Gerson Mayén, and Cesar Zamora have been selected to join the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team by head coach Thomas Rongen for a 10-day training camp in Argentina, starting on Tuesday, July 21. The camp, which is the final gathering of the team before the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in September, will include two international games as part of the Copa Ciudad de Rosario, against Uruguay on July 27 and Australia on July 29.
All three of the Red-and-White's players in the U.S. U-20 National Team camp were originally members of the Chivas USA Youth System. Flores signed with the first team in the middle of the 2007 season, Mayén joined in the 2008 preseason, and Zamora was signed to a first-team contract on May 28, 2009.
While this is Zamora's debut with the U.S. U-20 National Team, both Flores and Mayén have experience with the squad. Flores was with the U.S. U-20's for several international tournaments and camps in 2008 and 2009, including the U-20 CONCACAF Championships in March. Mayén joined Flores with the U-20's once in 2008, and has been with the team throughout 2009, including the team's recent trip to Egypt during the last week of June.
This camp is the final gathering of the U.S. U-20's before the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, which begins in late September in Egypt. The U.S. has been drawn into a difficult Group C of the tournament, and will match up against Germany on Sept. 26, Cameroon on Sept. 29 and Korea Republic on Oct. 2 in the first round. All three of the USA's group matches will be played at the Mubarak Stadium in Suez, Egypt.
